Sometimes a study is just investigating the potential “flavour” of a bigger painting.  I love that haven in the shadows before emerging out into the brilliance of the beach.  There’s always a dilemma.  Do i focus on the shadows?  Or the lightness beyond?  Or somehow try and do a dance between the two.  I don’t like to decide, so it’s usually a dance between the two.
