Painting small studies is something I can lose myself in. Playing around with colour, shapes and texture on a small scale is somehow freeing. I usually spend a bit of time with studies to investigate the interaction between elements, composition and overall feel, before committing to painting the piece on a larger scale. These are all unique, original paintings by me, generally painted with acrylics (sometimes mixed media) on offcut archival watercolour paper or canvas. Sitting on a cliff top, watching the swell come in. One wave, rears up and falls over itself, before it finally throws itself against the cliff. There’s something lovely about all of that movement and energy.
