Painting small studies is something I can lose myself in. Playing around with colour, shapes and texture on a small scale is somehow freeing. I usually spend a bit of time with studies to investigate the interaction between elements, composition and overall feel, before committing to painting the piece on a larger scale. These are all unique, original paintings by me, generally painted with acrylics (sometimes mixed media) on offcut archival watercolour paper or canvas. I’ve snuck away a couple of times in my van to camp at this spot. It’s a lovely shallow area full of sand and an outer reef that protects it all. The blue greens over the sand are cut through nicely by the bush that covers the cliff. It’s a nice place to sit and think.
