Painting small studies is something I can lose myself in. Playing around with colour, shapes and texture on a small scale is somehow freeing. I usually spend a bit of time with studies to investigate the interaction between elements, composition and overall feel, before committing to painting the piece on a larger scale. These are all unique, original paintings by me, generally painted with acrylics (sometimes mixed media) on offcut archival watercolour paper or canvas. I learned something last time I was in the Solomon’s. When the sky gets hazy and misty, my first thought was fire. But in the Solomons, out in the islands at least, it means strong wind is coming. I love how in tune with their environment, my Solomons friends are. Something to be learned there.
