Painting small studies is something I can lose myself in. Playing around with colour, shapes and texture on a small scale is somehow freeing. I usually spend a bit of time with studies to investigate the interaction between elements, composition and overall feel, before committing to painting the piece on a larger scale. These are all unique, original paintings by me, generally painted with acrylics (sometimes mixed media) on offcut archival watercolour paper or canvas. Sometimes most of the painting is just context. On this particular occasion the dunes were fun to paint, and the image I quite like. But the thing for me, was about painting the light filtering through the breaks in the trees. Subtle, but not.
