Painting small studies is something I can lose myself in. Playing around with colour, shapes and texture on a small scale is somehow freeing. I usually spend a bit of time with studies to investigate the interaction between elements, composition and overall feel, before committing to painting the piece on a larger scale. These are all unique, original paintings by me, generally painted with acrylics (sometimes mixed media) on offcut archival watercolour paper or canvas. Nothing says North Coast more than this. Doesn’t matter where I go in the world, you’ll never take the North Coast of NSW out of me. For some reason I’ll always make my way back to painting these stupid spiky smelly trees. It must be love.
