Painting small studies is something I can lose myself in. Playing around with colour, shapes and texture on a small scale is somehow freeing. I usually spend a bit of time with studies to investigate the interaction between elements, composition and overall feel, before committing to painting the piece on a larger scale. These are all unique, original paintings by me, generally painted with acrylics (sometimes mixed media) on offcut archival watercolour paper or canvas. No painting I ever do of the Solomons will ever do it justice. Doesn’t mean I won’t try though! Everything looks dull in comparison to the reality of the Solomons. Even on overcast, stormy days in the distance, there is still luminous blues and greens in the foreground.
