Painting small studies is something I can lose myself in. Playing around with colour, shapes and texture on a small scale is somehow freeing. I usually spend a bit of time with studies to investigate the interaction between elements, composition and overall feel, before committing to painting the piece on a larger scale. These are all unique, original paintings by me, generally painted with acrylics (sometimes mixed media) on offcut archival watercolour paper or canvas. The weather changes so fast in the Solomons. One minute it’s steaming hot and brilliant sunshine, colours saturated. Five minutes later, you’re standing in the rain enjoying the cool change. And then, it’s moved on. Fleeting.
