Painting small studies is something I can lose myself in. Playing around with colour, shapes and texture on a small scale is somehow freeing. I usually spend a bit of time with studies to investigate the interaction between elements, composition and overall feel, before committing to painting the piece on a larger scale. These are all unique, original paintings by me, generally painted with acrylics (sometimes mixed media) on offcut archival watercolour paper or canvas. This place is called Kukadaka (this means place of jellyfish from what I can gather), and it is a nice, easy, long, right hander peeling over reef. Super fun wave. Not too heavy for this old fella, but a very, very long paddle. I have had some of my best surfing moments at this spot.
