Painting small studies is something I can lose myself in. Playing around with colour, shapes and texture on a small scale is somehow freeing. I usually spend a bit of time with studies to investigate the interaction between elements, composition and overall feel, before committing to painting the piece on a larger scale. These are all unique, original paintings by me, generally painted with acrylics (sometimes mixed media) on offcut archival watercolour paper or canvas. This painting started off as an investigation into a possible workshop, but because the colours and the moment that that image represents is so compelling, it ended up being something much more. I’m sure I’ll never get sick of reflecting light on wet sand.
