Painting small studies is something I can lose myself in. Playing around with colour, shapes and texture on a small scale is somehow freeing. I usually spend a bit of time with studies to investigate the interaction between elements, composition and overall feel, before committing to painting the piece on a larger scale. These are all unique, original paintings by me, generally painted with acrylics (sometimes mixed media) on offcut archival watercolour paper or canvas. It’s easy to be distracted by the garish glory of the sun setting in the west, but, a quick look in the other direction will unveil a more subdued aspect of the sun moving out of sight. There is also, a lovely slowing down.
